1st Day

ARRIVAL

Arrival in Maratea, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

2nd Day

MARATEA AND POLLINO NATIONAL PARK

Breakfast at the hotel and visit to Maratea, defined as the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea”, with its elegant village and the imposing statue of the Redeemer from which you can admire the entire Gulf of Policastro. During the route, crossing the numerous hamlets you will be able to admire breathtaking views overlooking the sea. Maratea is also defined as the city of 44 churches, thanks to the presence of churches, monasteries and chapels, which identify each hamlet.

Free lunch and in the afternoon departure for the Pollino Park and guided tour of a village of Arberesch culture: San Costantino Albanese. It is one of the most characteristic Arbëreshe culture towns in Basilicata and is located in the Sarmento Valley. It preserves in its name, daily speech, traditions and culture the settings of the Albanian populations who found refuge here, leaving their identity imprinted even in the architecture and religious functions strongly linked to the Greek-Byzantine rite, especially on the occasion of the typical ceremonies weddings.

ALTERNATIVELY

Continue to Valsinni, the town where Isabella Morra, Lucanian poet of poignant love, lived in the first half of the 16th century and visit the castle overlooking the town which was the backdrop to the poet’s events.

Continuation to Policoro, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

3rd Day

METAPONTO AND MONTESCAGLIOSO ABBEY

Breakfast in the hotel and day dedicated to Magna Grecia. Visit to the Siritide Museum of Policoro which preserves the archaeological heritage of the area that revolves around the valleys of the Agri and Sinni rivers. Continue to the Temple of Hera, known as Tavole Palatine in Metaponto, the place where Pythagoras taught and died.

Free lunch and continuation to Matera with a stop for a short visit to the Montescaglioso Abbey, famous for its imposing medieval cloisters.

4th Day

SASSI DI MATERA AND MURGIA PARK

Breakfast at the hotel and morning dedicated to visiting the Sassi of Matera. Matera is among the oldest cities in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993 and European Capital of Culture in 2019, it appears nestled on two natural amphitheaters (Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano), with Civita in the centre. Visit along the suggestive Sassi districts, set of numerous international cinema films and Italian TV series. Possibility to visit a rock church and a typical cave house.

Free lunch along the lively historic center, with the possibility of tasting the typical baked products.

In the afternoon the visit continues to the Regional Park of the Rock Churches which can be reached by private shuttles. Guided tour of the Murgia Timone rock park where you will walk along prehistoric landscapes with breathtaking views.

Dinner in restaurant and overnight stay.

5th Day

DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel and return to the places of origin departing from Matera.
